► (1885-1967) Seudónimo del escritor francés Emile Herzog. De estilo ameno y elegante, alcanzó gran fama con sus novelas Bernardo Quesnay (1926), Climas (1928),Tierra de promisión (1946); anteriormente ya había publicado Los silencios del coronel Bramble (1918), continuada en Las paradojas del doctor O´Grady (1921), visión humorística de las costumbres anglosajonas. Cultivó el ensayo en Un arte de vivir (1939).

Escritor francés. Mientras servía como oficial del ejército británico durante la primera guerra mundial, Maurois obtuvo su primer éxito literario con Los silencios del coronel Bramble (1918), una descripción graciosa de la guerra y del carácter británico. Sus novelas de mayor relieve son Bernard Quesnay (1926) y Whatever Gods May Be [Lo que los dioses sean] (1928). Es conocido principalmente por sus biografías, que tienen el interés narrativo propio de las novelas; algunas de las figuras sobre las cuales escribió, son Percy B. Shelley, Lord Byron, Victor Hugo y Marcel Proust.
